Horror Themed Movie Board

Horror Movie Board

This is my mood board and the theme I had in mind is obviously a horror theme. This is made evident through the various different images seen in the board above. For example, the staircase leading into the darkness creates a tense feeling of uncertainty accompanied by a great fear of what awaits the subject. It is because we would know that what we're watching is a horror movie that we truly fear what lies beyond as it has to be something. As for the dark forest, it is commonly associated with running away from something that is hiding amongst the trees. Especially these types of trees that stands without life in the darkness. The haunted house and graveyards are staples of the horror theme. For the house, it gives a sense of being trapped without an escape once you enter. Especially if the character willingly walked into the house, its as though they sealed their own fate with their ignorance. The same concepts somewhat apply to a graveyard as well. This is a result of our thinking that graveyards heavily relate to the dead, leaving it uncertain whether our character will join them. Because it is only supposed to be filled with the dead, there should be nothing besides our character there. That is why once evidence of something else entirely appears, fear is felt. The moon contributes greatly to all of these settings as it represents the night, which is a necessity as nobody fears anything happening to them in broad daylight.

As for the characters, this is an essential aspect of all pieces of media that are horror related. We must be aware of what is it exactly that we fear. In the case of the movie IT!, it would be Pennywise the creepy clown as you never know when he may be watching. Because clowns are something usually associated with happiness and laughter, an uneasy feeling develops once one is viewed in contrast to the nature of the average clown. Jason is also an iconic menace from the horror genre. Him and his bloody machete is enough to induce fear into anybody. With his seemingly immortal body accompanied by the lurking background music growing louder and louder as he gets closer makes the audience extremely sensitive to all sounds, the perfect setup for a jump scare. Like pennywise the clown, creepy dolls are something that also causes great fear despite it not being something typically associated with it. The concept of an inanimate object moving by itself is enough to frighten most people, but once the idea that this doll might be thirsty for blood comes out, that's when the true difficulties arise. The feeling of helplessness as something that was once thought to be incapable of anything suddenly has a grip on your emotions. It is for reasons such as these that all of the images in my mood board greatly represent the crucial points associated with the horror genre.
